As a Director, Rachel Hutt leads organizations in creating strategies and building capacity, partnering with clients to achieve meaningful change in both big and small ways. Rachel’s core expertise is in facilitating diverse teams in thinking boldly and making decisions, as well as coaching leaders in guiding their organizations through change.

At Community Wealth Partners, Rachel has guided numerous nonprofits in developing strategies to achieve bold visions in a way that brings diverse stakeholder groups into agreement. This has ranged from partnering with a Baltimore-based organization to clarify and more boldly articulate its strategy for addressing race-based structural barriers to economic opportunity, to facilitating a highly inclusive listening and strategic planning process for a national mental health organization. She also partners with foundations, such as the Kresge Foundation, and national nonprofit networks, such as Communities In Schools, to better understand and build the capacity of their grantees or affiliates.

Prior to joining Community Wealth Partners, Rachel was committed to bringing the joy of reading to children around the country through her work at Reading Is Fundamental (RIF). At RIF she led key initiatives to improve organizational systems, making it easier for kids to access engaging books. Rachel has served on the board of a local Jewish social justice community and LearnServe International, which equips diverse groups of young people with business planning and social entrepreneurship skills and empowers them to make change in their communities.

Rachel has a B.A. in Sociology from Columbia University, where she graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa.

As an Associate Director, Walter Howell leads projects with nonprofit, foundation, and coalition clients, advises and coaches social sector leaders, and works together with teams to conduct research, analyze data, understand stories and experiences, and develop solutions and recommendations for partners. Walter has extensive experience facilitating diverse groups to come to inclusive solutions together, understands what it takes to create change that leads to equitable outcomes, and thrives as a coach and guide to partners in the work.

Since joining Community Wealth Partners, Walter has supported community development organizations and neighborhood-based partners in developing plans for financial sustainability and building community collaboration. He worked with a national nonprofit dedicated to childhood health and well-being to lead them through a strategic planning process to develop a new, transformational bold goal and theory of change. He has coached foundation and nonprofit leaders through many culture, operational, and organizational change efforts. His partners include KaBOOM!, PBS Education, Helios Education Foundation, Campaign for Black Male Achievement, Wells Fargo Regional Foundation, and the Kresge Foundation Arts and Culture program.

Before joining Community Wealth Partners, Walter worked with Enterprise Community Partners, a national affordable housing nonprofit, where he managed a $7M federal National Stabilization Program grant to assist communities hurt by the national housing crisis. He also served as an international public service fellow with Harvard University, through which he spent a year in Palestine providing technical assistance and research support to a microfinance initiative with the United Nations Relief Works Agency based in Jerusalem. He has a passion for youth mentoring through years of tutoring, basketball coaching, and other volunteer efforts at his local Columbia Heights and Rita Bright Recreation Centers in Washington, D.C.

As a Senior Manager, Wes helps her partners define success and make data-informed decisions. Wes brings a wealth of experience in analyzing data, managing programs and projects, and supporting large, diverse groups of individuals from nonprofits, foundations, and capacity-building organizations as they work together to grow their impact and make transformational change.

At Community Wealth Partners, he has helped design and implement multiple large-scale capacity-building programs focused on supporting nonprofits and coalitions through a lens of racial equity. He has worked to develop and improve tools to assess nonprofit capacity and combined those tools with Community Wealth Partners’ Transformation Lifecycle to create a diagnostic tool to help nonprofits and coalitions identify where they are in that lifecycle.

Wes brings extensive experience leading large projects and managing complex processes at the intersection of law, government regulation, and the public interest. He has conducted extensive research and analysis on fast-moving global events and transformed that analysis into policy recommendations and actionable solutions. Before moving into consulting, Wes worked for the State Department on freedom of information issues, in which he managed major projects involving the review and release of tens of thousands of documents. He created spreadsheets, databases, and processes that saved the government thousands of hours of manual labor.

As a senior consultant, Megan Coolidge has extensive experience designing and carrying out programs in ways that center the participants’ experience. She is a strong project manager with acute attention to detail. Megan also has deep experience as a facilitator, surfacing various perspectives while balancing them with the need for clarity and progress.

Among her work at Community Wealth Partners, Megan led a program in partnership with The Case Foundation and The Kauffman Foundation focused on building the capacity of organizations striving to achieve equitable opportunities for women and people of color entrepreneurs. Megan and her team led the process to design a cohort-based program, which involved deeply understanding the challenges these leaders face and then building a program centered on their needs. She and the team then led the program’s implementation, which included in-person workshops, coaching, and virtual peer learning calls. Megan’s other client work includes supporting program design for AARP; developing a strategic plan and supporting a change-management process for a national mental health organization; leading a network capacity assessment for a research and policy institute; and developing an earned revenue strategy for a medical school, among others.

Prior to Community Wealth Partners, Megan worked in the social entrepreneurship space. She was a program manager at Ashoka, the organization that pioneered the field of social entrepreneurship and selects and supports world-class entrepreneurs who tackle global issues through systems-level change. While at Ashoka, Megan facilitated partnerships between social entrepreneurs and corporate partners to collaboratively tackle social and environmental challenges. In that role, she identified and facilitated partnerships that created opportunities for the corporate partner to learn from on-the-ground innovation while also contributing their expertise to help scale impact. She then became a senior fellow at B Lab, where she helped build and support a community of business entrepreneurs striving to improve their social and environmental business practices.

As a Consultant, Allison Brown leads client engagements, advises and coaches leaders, and spearheads internal teams to develop solutions and deliverables through research and analysis. She has a strong background in social enterprise strategy, with a focus on education and women’s empowerment initiatives. Her expertise is specifically centered around expansion planning, developing sustainable business models, and leading communication strategies.

Allison previously worked as the India Field Manager with Gray Matters Capital Foundation, where she led the program development and cohort management for the IDEX Fellowship in Social Enterprise.  While in India, she also co-founded an empowerment and life skills training organization, VOICE 4 Girls, where she designed a revenue-generating business model, developed strategic partnerships, and oversaw operations to deliver services to over 4,000 girls.

As Vice President, Carla provides oversight for strategic capacity-building engagements and helps drive the overall growth and development of the firm.

Carla has 20 years of experience developing and managing capacity-building initiatives to help accelerate results for social sector organizations. While at the Center for the Study of Social Policy, Carla oversaw a collaborative planning process that led to the development of an evaluation and shared learning plan for The California Endowment’s signature health equity initiative. In this role, she also managed the design and delivery of technical assistance for cohorts of federally funded Promise Neighborhoods with a network of staff, consultants, and national partners. Prior to that, she worked with colleagues from FHI 360 to oversee implementation of the Postsecondary Success Collaborative and provide technical assistance to local partnerships in three cities. She also served as a research assistant with the John W. Gardner Center for Youth and Their Communities, contributing to a formative evaluation of emerging community schools and investigating cross-sector collaboration as a community change strategy. Prior to that, Carla managed a three-year Ford Foundation initiative structured as a learning community of twelve organizations and four international fellows who generated insights about civic activism as a strategy for youth development.

Carla holds a Master of Science in community services management from Andrews University and received her Ph.D. in education from Stanford University.

Amy served in various consulting and management roles with Community Wealth Partners for eight years before moving into her current position.

As associate vice president, Lori oversees partnerships and field building for the firm, including content development, communications, and business development. She works with clients and the team to build lasting relationships with partners, identify top-of-mind questions and issues, design original research and learning experiences to address them, and create and disseminate content that helps nonprofits and foundations in their work.

While at Community Wealth Partners, Lori’s work has focused primarily on practical guidance for funders investing in nonprofit capacity, with a particular emphasis on supporting nonprofits’ DEI capacity. She also led a research project that aimed to inspire major individual donors to improve the way they support nonprofits’ organizational health and sustainability and has worked with community foundations across the country to help them direct more resources to BIPOC-led organizations.

Lori is passionate about strengthening the nonprofit sector and has nearly two decades of experience working with nonprofits and foundations nationally. Previously she worked at Grantmakers for Effective Organizations (GEO), where she helped grow the organization and its brand from start-up to a community of more than 600 grantmaking institutions, a staff of more than 25, and a budget of $5 million. Her last position at GEO was as vice president of programs, where she oversaw strategy and execution for all of GEO’s content and services, including conferences, publishing, and peer learning programs. Lori also worked at BoardSource where she wrote, edited, and disseminated publications and other resources on effective nonprofit governance.

Lori received a master’s degree from the Lilly School of Philanthropy at Indiana University and bachelor’s degrees in journalism and English from the University of Missouri. She serves as vice chair of the community grants advisory board of Culpeper Wellness Foundation.
