Social Franchise Ventures Update
In the past quarter, SFV launched engagements with three new clients in the Pittsburgh area: The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania, and most recently, Wesley Spectrum Services. Each of these clients has unique assets that will make it attractive to a franchisor partner. The team is working diligently with these clients to develop their social franchise strategies. In addition, SFV continues to work with several other clients to negotiate franchise agreements.

SFV participated in the First NISH Symposium on Franchise Operations in Los Angeles on October 17-18. The symposium was held in conjunction with the International Franchise Association's West Coast Franchise Expo and was aimed at nonprofit agency executives interested in investigating franchising to generate revenue and develop new and exciting job opportunities for people with disabilities. SFV presented a two-part workshop designed to introduce nonprofit executives to the franchise sector and the issues and opportunities involved in the pursuit of a social franchise.

On November 7, SFV presented a workshop at the New Hampshire Center for Nonprofits titled Social Enterprise: A Path to Greater Sustainability.

Venture Consulting Practice Update
Public Allies hired CWV to assess its needs and determine the market opportunity for a time tracking/performance management IT system. Our work involves analyzing the competition, interviewing and surveying potential customers, and leading focus groups.

CWV recently completed a successful engagement with the Search Institute in which we developed a business plan that includes the strategies and investment required to motivate and equip 10 million adults with Search Institute youth development resources while reaching financial sustainability for the organization.

We kicked off an engagement with Northern Virginia Family Service to help the client determine which of its many assets and capabilities to leverage in the development of a social enterprise. The team identified 10 potential opportunities that would be relatively easy to implement and that have significant revenue potential.
