Perspectives on Innovation

With the launch of a Social Innovation Fund and the $650M Department of Education Investing in Innovation Fund, the federal government has unleashed an unprecedented amount of capital and resources to galvanize innovation in the social sector.  The increased focus on innovation builds upon an entrepreneurial movement within the sector and is due in large part to hard work and trailblazing of individual innovators like Billy Shore and Wendy Kopp, and their infrastructure counterparts like Echoing Green and Ashoka

Having worked with hundreds of nonprofit organizations on innovative and entrepreneurial efforts, we at CWV are excited by the groundswell of investment and attention.  The heightened national dialogue on innovation couldn’t happen at a better time. Given the economic recession and the variety of challenges to organizational sustainability, innovation is a crucial component of any organization’s effort to remain relevant, attract necessary resources, and achieve lasting impact.

Innovating is easier said than done.  Thus, to highlight and support the practitioner’s vantage point we look forward to sharing the perspectives and work of our clients who are in the trenches, affecting change in their communities on a day-in-day-out basis.  Starting this month, we will offer perspectives from the participants in the Louisiana Social Innovators Institute as well as insights from CWV’s consultants.  Stay tuned.
